Uttar Pradesh: Police in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, has apprehended one of the two contract killers hired to assassinate a 35-year-old college lecturer. Priya Sharma was assassinated just five days ago.

Raju Singh, the sharpshooter who was apprehended after a brief encounter, was identified, but his accomplice, Golu, managed to flee. Police have announced that anyone with information on the fugitive criminal can receive a reward of Rs 25,000 from the police. The two criminals were allegedly hired for Rs 5.5 lakh by the woman's husband, according to the police. Priya's husband, Kamal Sharma, is on the run. He has also been charged with murder, according to police. The crime appears to be motivated by a marital feud between the couple.

Priya had filed a dowry case against her husband at Chandpur police station the day before she was killed, according to Bijnor Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharamveer Singh. "During a routine vehicle check on Tuesday night, a police team signalled two men on a bike to stop, but they tried to flee," the SP said of the sharpshooter's arrest.
