Muzaffarpur: A video from Bihar showing a group of men brutally thrashing a policeman in uniform has gone viral on social media. The fact that not even a single bystander can be seen trying to protect or rescue the official has shocked political spectators who claim that this is an illustration of an utter breakdown of law and order in the state of Bihar.

Here it is to be noted that the incident in question took place at Aghoria Bazar chowk in Muzaffarpur, reported news agency ANI. Local law enforcement personnel familiar with the matter told media outlets that the policeman confronted one of the assailants, an autorickshaw driver, for driving on the wrong side of the road. This is when the autorickshaw driver summoned his friends and mercilessly assaulted the policeman who was on duty at the time.

However, according to the latest reports, the attacked policeman has been admitted to a hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment while a search operation has been launched to nab the accused. A case has been registered in this regard against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Kazi Mohammedpur police station.

Here it is to be noted that in the video, the men can be seeing manhandling and mercilessly thrashing the police officer while hurling expletives at him. Despite the presence of hundreds of bystanders at the scene of the crime, as can be seen in the video, not even a single bystander stood up to protect or rescue the policeman. A much similar incident had come to light from New Delhi earlier this month where a man of African descent was brutally thrashed by a mob of locals after he engaged into an altercation with a traffic police personnel. A video of this assault too ended up on social media and went viral.
