21-year-old Dalit man beaten as Dalits don't have right to see garba, says Upper-Class Patel boy.

Gujarat: On joining a Garba event in Anand district of Gujarat, a group of people from the Upper Patel community allegedly beat up a 21-year-old Dalit boy and killed him.

The information is given by police officials, a case has been registered against eight people. Referring to the complaint filed in connection with the incident, the police said that Jayesh Solanki, his relative Prakash Solanki, and two other Dalit people were sitting near the house situated next to a temple in Bhadraniya village. Only then did a person 'make derogatory remarks about his caste'. 

An official of the Bhadraniya police station said the accused said that the Dalits do not have the right to see garba. He made a racist remark and asked some people to come to the spot. The official said that the upper caste people allegedly beat the Dalits and gave Jayesh's head on a wall. Jayesh was taken to a hospital in Karamsad where doctors declared him dead. 

The officer said, "We have filed FIR against eight people under the Prevention and Prevention of Atrocities Act."

Police Deputy Superintendent (Scheduled Castes / Tribe Cell) AM Patel said that it is not a pre-planned attack.
