I know, a trip to Ladakh in winters sounds crazy but if you are a challenge lover and love to try new and different things then you can go for this. Winter is the time when you'll experience the real Ladakh where you will hardly find any tourists. How locals spend their life in winters? How do they deal with this much of cold?

The idea to visit Ladakh during winters is only for people who can bare extreme cold. The temperature scale hit -30 degrees in the nights. So be prepared and set your mind for colder nights and even days. This trip could be harsh for people who feel cold even at the temperature around 0 degrees. At the time of winters, everything's frozen in the Ladakh, you don't even find running water in the taps.

Airlines are the only way to reach Ladakh because both the road routes Manali-Leh Highway and Srinagar-Leh Highway are closed due to snow. While you are in flight and travelling in the daytime, you can enjoy amazing views of snowy Himalayas. If you want comfort travel in Ladakh, you can hire taxis (SUVs). Do a prior research of the places you can visit or cannot visit because heavy snowfall at some places might disturb your planning.

Recommended places to stay in Leh in the winters are Hotel Tso Kar, Padma Hotel, Shanti Hotel—all located near the Fort Road; you can also consider the Oriental Guesthouse that is located on Chanspa Road.

It is advisable to wear 4-5 layers of clothing at the departing airport itself to prepare yourself for the imminent cold of the Leh airport.
