Shimla: On the eve of Diwali, a five-year-old boy was abducted by a wild animal while playing with his younger brother, according to a forest official. This is Shimla's second such incident in the last three months.

The boy was playing with his younger brother near his home in the Old Bus Stand area around 8 p.m. on Thursday when the wild animal abducted him. Ravi Shankar, Shimla Divisional Forest Officer (wildlife), said the animal's identity is still unknown. The boy's younger brother informed his family that a wild animal had kidnapped him. He said the Forest Department's Rapid Rescue Team (RRT) received a call around 11 p.m. after the family members informed the local police about the incident. According to Shankar, the RRT and a police Quick Response Team (QRT) have launched a joint search and rescue operation.

A pair of trousers and some bloodstains were discovered near the scene, according to the officer, who is also involved in the rescue operation. The Forest Service is checking to see if they belong to the boy. "The Forest Department is focused on rescuing the boy," Shankar said.

In a similar incident in August, a 5-year-old girl was taken away from Kanlog locality and mauled to death by a leopard.
