Mumbai: In a heartwarming  incident A Hindu and a Muslim woman donated kidneys to each other's husbands at a hospital in Mumbai.  The women decided to come to each other's rescue as they agreed for the transplants.

According to reports,  Nazreen Patel, a resident of Thane and Satyadevi, a resident of Bihar fulfilled all legal responsibilities just it time for the transplant to happen on March 14, World Kidney Day. Due to their constant visits to the centre, the two women had developed a friendly bond with each other.

Satyadevi's husband, Ramswarth was also suffering with kidney disease and wanted to go for a transplant . On the other hand, Nazreen's husband, Nadeem was on dialysis since the past four years and need a transplant. The two patients were under Dr Hemal Shah, the head of nephrology at Saifee Hospital. After observing that Nazreen and Ramswarth had blood group A while Nadeem and Datyadevi had blood group B, Shah proposed the idea of a swap transplant.

Dr Shah said that in transplants like these, it is important to align the timing, health and finances of the two families. The family of Ramswarth waited patiently for the transplant as Nadeem underwent a gall bladder surgery a month before the same.

DR Vinit Shah and Dr J Lalmalani removed the kidneys of the two donors while the recipients were taken care of by Dr Phiroze Soonawal and  Dr Ashiq Rawal.
