CHENNAI: Officials from the Tamil Nadu Forest Department captured a leopard from a warehouse in Coimbatore's B.P. Pudur region on Saturday, after a five-day search. The Department had been waiting for the leopard to be captured for the past five days, based on information received from residents, but in vain.

The leopard, which did not damage anyone or assault any household animals, was discovered early Saturday morning at the abandoned warehouse.

S. Balasubramanian, the Conservator of Forests who oversaw the operation, said that as soon as the animal was caught in the trap, a team of veterinary professionals evaluated its health and determined it to be stable.

However, the animal had gone five days without eating or drinking, and no visible injuries had been reported. After receiving clearance from Tamil Nadu's Chief Wildlife Conservator, Shekar Kumar Neeraj, the leopard would be released into the jungle later that day.

The Forest Department had set up two cages to commemorate the leopard's capture, and its movements were tracked by CCTV cameras in the area. Meanwhile, since the leopard entered the abandoned warehouse five days ago, fire and rescue officials, as well as police, have kept people away from it.
