Chennai: On Wednesday, A medical college student indulged in trafficking drugs regularly to his friends in Puducherry from Chennai got arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau at Koyambedu bus terminus. The student was carrying 1.5 kilograms of drugs with him.

The incident took place on Wednesday night when Koyambedu police were doing their routine rounds at the bus terminus. During this, the police officials found two suspicious people standing alone and interchanging cash and a bag. When the policemen tried approaching them to inquire about the activity, the man with the cash sped off. The Police caught hold of the one with a bag in hand and found the smell of drugs on him. The man was taken to the Police station for further enquiry.

During the questioning, the Police found out that the man, identified as one Nijumanmiya from Kerala aged 20, was a student of 2nd year Medicine in a private medical college based in Puducherry. The student was found with around 1.5 kilograms of drug packets inside his bag which he was trying to traffic to Puducherry to his friends - something he has been doing quite often.

On a recent statement by Narcotics Control Bureau, only one per cent of drugs coming to Chennai enters the city and the rest is headed elsewhere - mostly in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The police also mentioned that the gangs dealing with drug trafficking hold drugs like heroin, cocaine and cannabis and get the transporting of drugs done through students and youngsters. Koyambedu Police has registered a case and is trying to find the distributor of those drugs.
