Lucknow: Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh have been completed, but its impact is now being seen on the families. A Muslim woman from Bareilly has accused her husband of threatening to divorce her for voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The woman met Farhat Naqvi, the sister of Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and lodged her complaint. Najma Ulama, a resident of Bareilly, alleged that when she voted for the BJP in the assembly elections, her husband threatened to give triple talaq to his begum and beat her up and threw her out of the house.
Najma has said that in this time's assembly elections, many Muslim women have quietly voted in favour of the BJP. The reason behind Muslim women voting for the BJP is said to be the central government's decision to enact a law on triple talaq. Najma Ulama says that if voted for the BJP, the husband has threatened to divorce. Najma Ulama Ansari, daughter of Tahir Ansari, a resident of Ejaz Nagar Gotia in Bareilly, had a love marriage with Tasleem Ansari against the wishes of the family. She and Tasleem got married in January 2021. The victim says that her husband Tasleem and her husband's maternal uncle is Samajwadi Party (SP) workers.
Najma Ulama told her husband and her uncle that she had voted for the BJP because the BJP had done a lot of work for women, an angry Tasleem threatened to give triple talaq to his wife Ulama and beat her up and threw her out of the house and said that I see that the BJP government stops me from giving you triple talaq. The fight for rights approached Farhat Naqvi, president of the Mera Haq Foundation, for assistance. Farhat is the sister of Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and runs an NGO called Mera Haq Foundation and helps triple talaq victims.
Najma Ulama approached Farhat Naqvi for help and pleaded with Farhat Naqvi for justice. In this whole matter, Farhat Naqvi says that there is an attempt to call the families of the two and talk to each other first, whatever will happen, further decisions will be taken accordingly. The case has not yet reached the police.
