BYD, a Chinese automaker, has unveiled the e6, an all-new electric multi-purpose car, in India for Rs 29.6 lakh (ex-showroom). The new MPV will not be sold as a passenger vehicle, but rather for the Indian B2B market, according to the automaker.
Since 2007, BYD has had a presence in India. BYD, based in Chennai, has two manufacturing plants in India that produce electric buses and vehicles, as well as mobile components, solar panels, battery energy storage, and other technologies.
The new e6 MPV comes with a 71.7 kWh Blade Battery that, according to WLTP standards, can provide a range of 520 km on a single charge in city circumstances. It has a peak torque of 180 Nm and a top speed of 130 kmph, thanks to a 70kWh electric motor. The electric MPV e6 can be charged using both AC and DC fast charging stations, according to BYD. The MPV can also be charged from 30% to 80% in just over half an hour, according to the company.
"We are happy to debut the new e6 to realise India's electric revolution ambitions with our premium green technology," said Ketsu Zhang, executive director of BYD India. We feel this is an ideal and strategic time for BYD India to expand in major areas throughout the country. We try to exceed local consumer expectations, and I am convinced that the new e6 and future product line will do just that."
According to Shrirang Joshi, BYD India's Sales Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles, "We are overjoyed to finally deliver our all-new, globally tested e6 to the Indian market. We believe the All-New e6 will be a hit in the Indian B2B sector, focusing on safety, dependability, interior space, and economic feasibility "..
BYD is also working on enhancing the driving experience, with "some of the best-in-class features both in terms of driving comfort and interior amenities," according to Joshi. "Our clients and the segment as a whole will benefit greatly from the lower total cost of ownership. We're excited to be a part of India's electric vehicle revolution, and we'll be releasing additional product lines in the future "Joshi said.
BYD has announced that the new e6 electric MPV would be available for an ex-showroom price of Rs 29.6 lakh in key metro areas including as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, as well as regional cities such as Vijayawada, Ahmedabad, and Kochi.
The BYD e6 also comes with a 3-year or 1.25-lakh-kilometre service, an 8-year or 5-lakh-kilometre battery cell warranty, and an 8-year or 1.5-lakh-kilometre traction motor warranty, whichever comes first. Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova Crysta, Renault Triber, and Mahindra Marazzo now lead the MPV sector in India.
