A pregnant woman died, husband donate her organ on Valentine’s Day

Vellore: In an incident that took place in the Vellore Christian Medical College hospital which is equally heartbreaking and inspiring, a husband donated his pregnant wife's vital organs on Valentine's day after she suddenly died of an unseen illness.

As per source report, Kokila (24), who lived in Bagalanthane Street, Bhuvanagiri, in Cuddalore and was pregnant was admitted to the CMC for giving birth on February 4. Kokila who was married to Gowthamraj was expecting their first child. Gowtham married Polur resident Kokila last year in May. A few months after Kokila conceived, she started suffering from major weight loss. Her health deteriorated and she was later she admitted in Vellore. On 7 February, Kokila started having seizures and the doctors operated on her to deliver a baby girl. But the child too was born weak and thus had to be put in an incubator.

However, Kokila stayed in an unconscious state after suffering multiple complications particularly cerebral haemorrhage. She was declared brain dead on the morning of Valentine's day at 3.37 am. Gowthamraj later decided to donate her vital organs. Hospital authorities said that her heart and lungs were harvested and sent to Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai while her liver, eyes and both kidneys were taken by CMC itself.

Kokila's final rites were held on February 15 by her family at her native place Polur.
