London: The final Friday before the fasting holy month of Ramadan coincides with the distribution of more than 20,000 leaflets urging Muslims to #CheckTheLabel and boycott Israel at mosques throughout the UK, organisers said on Friday.
The initiative, which is a part of the "Check The Label" campaign, is urging Muslims in the UK and Europe not to break their fasts with the "taste of apartheid." It was started by the UK-based Friends of Al-Aqsa organisation, which is concerned with defending the human rights of Palestinians and protecting the Al-Aqsa sanctuary.
The FOA said in a statement that the boycott campaign has gained significant traction in the lead-up to Ramadan this year, with press coverage from the UK to Morocco and Malaysia.

Since it began in the early 2010s, #CheckTheLabel has had an unprecedented impact on how the British public perceives the relationship between the products they purchase and Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine. As a result of this campaign, many people have developed into ethical consumers who avoid purchasing Israeli produce, according to FOA.

Shamiul Joarder, FOA's head of public affairs, said that during this Ramadan, it is more crucial than ever that we boycott Israel. We can send a loud and clear message that we won't support an apartheid state that murders Palestinian children by reading the label and avoiding Israeli dates.
According to the group, at least 16 children were among the 83 Palestinians killed by Israel in the first 76 days of 2023.
