Raipur: In the Ranitarai police station area of Patan, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel's constituency, a woman committed suicide by being tortured. Some people used to call the woman as Tonhi (witch), due to which she took this step after getting fed up. This woman, named Kirtan Bai Sahu, committed suicide by hanging herself from the mango tree behind her house on 17 March. After which the Ranitrai police station registered a case and started the investigation and arrested the four accused who tortured the woman.

In Chhattisgarh, a law called the Tonahi Harassment Act has been enacted for those who say toonhi (witch) as a social evil or to persecute in the name of tantra mantra. Its cases are also coming out. On March 17, the four accused created a ruckus at the house of the deceased Kirtan Sahu. It is being told that this was not the first time when these people accused him of being a witch. Such disputes used to take place earlier, but Kirtan Bai embraced death after being constantly discredited in the village by being called sarcastic.

A suicide note has also been found in the hands of Kirtan Bai, which had the names of the four accused. On the complaint of the family, the police investigated the case and arrested the four accused of customs.
