NEW DELHI: Aadhaar holders carried out 1.96 billion authentication transactions in April 2023, a surge of more than 19.3% from April 2022. This statistic highlights the expanding Aadhaar usage and the expansion of the nation's digital economy.

The Ministry of Electronics & IT released a statement stating that "Aadhaar holders executed 1.96 billion authentication transactions in April 2023, a jump of more than 19.3% over April 2022, indicating the growth of digital economy and usage of Aadhaar in India."

According to the report, demographic and OTP-based authentications come in second place to fingerprint authentications, which account for the majority of these authentication transaction counts. "Face authentication too is witnessing a good usage across sectors for easy service delivery," the release said.

While the adult population continues to have almost complete Aadhaar saturation, the saturation level across all age categories has now risen to 94.8%, showing how widely used and accepted Aadhaar is among locals. More than 15.44 million Aadhaars were updated in April at the citizens' request, the statement stated.

Aadhaar e-KYC service continues to play a "stellar role" for banking and non-banking financial services by promoting ease of doing business and delivering transparent and enhanced client experiences.

The ministry reported that more than 250.5 million eKYC transactions were completed in just April. Financial institutions, telecom service providers, and other organisations have experienced dramatically lower client acquisition costs as a result of the adoption of e-KYC. By the end of April 2023, the total number of Aadhaar e-KYC transactions would have surpassed 14.95 billion.
