Aadhaar-PAN linking deadline increased for eighth time, can now be linked by March 2020

Relief has been reported for those who have not yet done the linking of PAN and Aadhaar for any reason. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued an order ordering extension of the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline to 31 March 2020. The CBDT has issued a statement saying that the fixed date for linking of PAN and Aadhaar mentioned under sub-section 2 of section 193AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 is being extended from 31 December 2019 to 31 March 2020.

This is the eighth time the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline of a person. As per section 193AA (2) of the Income Tax Act, any person who has a PAN card from 1 July 2017 and is eligible to take Aadhaar, is required to give information of his Aadhaar number to the tax authority.
