Relief has been reported for those who have not yet done the linking of PAN and Aadhaar for any reason. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued an order ordering extension of the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline to 31 March 2020. The CBDT has issued a statement saying that the fixed date for linking of PAN and Aadhaar mentioned under sub-section 2 of section 193AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 is being extended from 31 December 2019 to 31 March 2020.

The due date for linking of PAN with Aadhaar as specified under sub-section 2 of Section 139AA of the Income-tax Act,1961 has been extended from 31st December, 2019 to 31st March, 2020.

The CBDT, which framed the policy for the Income Tax Department, said that a notification has been issued in this context. For your information, let us know that the deadline for the PAN-Aadhaar linking was before 31 December 2019. This is the eighth time the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline of a person. As per section 193AA (2) of the Income Tax Act, any person who has a PAN card from 1 July 2017 and is eligible to take Aadhaar, is required to give information of his Aadhaar number to the tax authority.

In September last year, the Supreme Court had declared the central government's Aadhaar scheme as constitutionally valid and said that it could be mandatory for filing income tax returns and allotment of PAN.
