Centre is planning that in upcoming days the Aadhaar can get linked to driving license.

The Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who currently handles the Law and Justice and Ministry of Information Technology at the Digital Haryana Summit 2017 on Friday said that Aadhaar may soon be linked to driving licence.

"We are planning to link driving licence to Aadhaar. I have had a word with Gadkari Ji regarding this," said Prasad.

Though, the minister did not state any time frame for linking the Unique Identification Number (UID) with the driving licence.

The minister said, “Digital identity confirms physical identity with the help of digital technology.” The minister also explained the PAN-Aadhaar linkage as a bid to prevent money laundering.

Prasad also mentioned that the biometric information- which includes iris scan and fingerprints -is stored in an encrypted form and is very secure.

50 central schemes so far have been linked to Aadhaar and it has also been made mandatory to file Income Tax returns.
