The government has made biometric identification number base mandatory for all post offices deposit accounts. Now it will be necessary to post your Aadhaar number in Public Provident Fund (PPF), National Savings Certificate (NSC) and Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) in post offices. 

The present depositors have been given the time of December 31, 2017, to give their 12 digits unique identification number. 

The Finance Ministry has made the mandatory for opening all post office deposit accounts, PPF, NSC and KVP accounts by issuing four separate gazette notifications. It has been stated in the notification issued on September 29 that if a person has not got the Aadhaar number then he should give proof of his / her nomination. 

It has been said that existing depositors who have not provided their Aadhaar number at the time of application, submit it to the respective post office savings bank or related office before December 31, 2017, or more. 

The government is pushing for the base number compulsory for bank deposit accounts, mobile phones, and many other facilities. The purpose behind this is to curb banishment deals and black money. Last month, the government had increased the deadline for getting the Aadhaar numbers to take advantage of government schemes and subsidy from three months until December 31. 

Earlier this deadline was 30 September. Within the scope of this expansion, 135 schemes of 35 ministries will come up.These will include free LPG, kerosene and fertilizer subsidy and targeted public distribution system and MNREGA schemes for poor women.
