On Sunday, the central government through a press release appealed to the people of the country not to share copies of the Aadhaar card. The government has requested the countrymen not to share the photocopy of their Aadhaar with any person or institution. After seeing this request, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has taken a dig at the government. Apart from Owaisi, some other opposition leaders have also reacted to this announcement of the government.

There are also various comments on social media about this decision. Opposition leaders, including AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, have lashed out at the government over the amendment of rules in the Central government's Aadhaar card. "Don't forget that Aadhaar card has also been used for mob lynching. A Muslim vendor was beaten up in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh for not having an Aadhaar card. He also said, "The government agencies have made Aadhaar mandatory for the last many years. Now the government is hoping that common people will argue about the risk of losing some government notification and essential services.''

He also took a dig at the former BJP councillor's claim that a disabled man Bhanwarlal Jain had taken his life and said, "He was killed on the suspicion that he was a Muslim and he had failed to show his Aadhaar card. Congress also took a dig at the government's change on the rules of Aadhaar cards.'' Congress leader Srinivas VB wrote on his social media, "When the Aadhaar card of every Indian in the country has been distributed in every corner of the country, the government remembered that it can be dangerous to do so..! It's not too late now.''

Earlier on May 27, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a notification saying, "Organisations that have obtained a user's license from Uidai can use Aadhaar to establish the identity of any person. Apart from this, the press release also said that private entities like hotels or films are not entitled to keep copies of the Aadhaar Card.''
