AAP accuses Delhi Lt Governor of illegally nominating MCD Advisor

NEW DELHI: On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) charged Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena with illegally appointing BJP members as advisors to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

As per Article 243R and S of the Indian Constitution, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said the people selected as advisors should have specialised knowledge and skill in subjects relevant to the Municipal Corporation.

Since Saxena selected Satya Sharma, a prominent member of the BJP, to serve as the presiding officer, the party has been spotted regularly making accusations against him. Bhardwaj further said that the L-G rejected the candidates put forth by the AAP for the Animal Care Board, claiming that the leaders had any specialised understanding regarding the welfare of animals.

He questioned the qualifications of those who were purportedly nominated for alderman councillor positions illegally.

The  AAP on January 4 had accused the 10 aldermen nominated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi ahead of January 6 mayoral poll of being BJP workers and alleged that the civic body sent their names directly to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena without keeping the city government in the loop.

The AAP slammed Delhi Lt Governor alleging the illegal appointment of ten aldermen in the MCD, stating  the move unconstitutional. The party has complained that while bypassing the elected Delhi government, the Lieutenant Governor  unconstitutionally notified the names of the nominated councillors of MCD, also known as the aldermen.
