New Delhi: Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders were detained by police on Saturday while protesting outside the residence of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The demonstration aimed to demand the reinstatement of bus marshals who had recently been terminated.
AAP MLAs, ministers, and numerous bus marshals gathered at the protest, voicing their discontent over the situation. Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of reneging on their promise to regularize bus marshals. "Today, the BJP has betrayed 10,000 bus marshals," he stated, highlighting a commitment previously made by BJP leader Vijender Gupta that he claimed was broken.
In a video shared on social media, Bharadwaj expressed his frustration, saying, "Gupta assured us that once the resolution was passed by the cabinet, the marshals would be regularized through the LG." He further asserted that both the Lieutenant Governor and BJP leaders had "betrayed the bus marshals and the people of Delhi."
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also joined the criticism against the BJP, accusing the party of delaying the regularization process for bus marshals. "The Delhi government has done everything in its power to move the process forward. All the necessary steps have been taken," Atishi emphasized, urging the BJP to regularize the bus marshals and issue their joining letters.
Atishi disclosed that BJP MLAs had approached her the previous day to request a meeting regarding the bus marshals' issue. "We met them and explained that this matter falls under service matters, which come under the LG," she noted.
She added that during the meeting, her entire cabinet made it clear that decisions within their jurisdiction would be made by them, while urging the BJP to prompt the Lieutenant Governor to act on matters under his authority. "The BJP got exposed today," she remarked, accusing them of evading responsibility and playing politics over the issue.
