New Delhi: Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has named Shaili Oberoi as its mayoral candidate. At the same time, the name Aaley Mohammad Iqbal has been announced for the post of Deputy Mayor. The decision was taken at the PAC meeting of AAP. The mayor and deputy mayor will be for three months and the members of the standing committee will be for one year. Mayor, deputy mayor, and standing committee members will be elected in the first meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on January 6.

In the MCD election results announced on December 7, AAP won 134 seats and BJP 104 seats. The Delhi BJP has already announced that it will not field its candidate for the post of mayor and deputy mayor. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly and BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said, "We have already said that BJP will not participate in the mayoral election. In MCD, a figure of 126 is needed to become a mayor.'' In the PAC meeting held today, six names were discussed, including one name for the post of mayor, one name for the post of deputy mayor, and 4 for the standing committee. Amil Malik, Ravinder Kaur, Mohini Jinwal, and Sarika Chaudhary will be members of the standing committee from AAP.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted, "Heartiest congratulations to AAP's newly appointed MCD mayoral candidate Shaili Oberoi and deputy mayoral candidate Aaley Mohammad Iqbal. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the mission of making Delhi clean, beautiful, and corruption-free will get tremendous success.
