NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Som Dutt Sharma has been sentenced to six months in jail by a Delhi court from Sadar Bazar in the national capital. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the MLA. The Delhi Rause Avenue Court has pronounced the verdict in a 2015 rape case. The court had convicted AAP MLA Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar area for causing serious injury to a person.

The case pertains to Gulab Bagh in January 2015, when Som Dutt beat complainant Sanjeev Rana badly with a baseball bat. Som Dutt was not an MLA at the time. The complainant Sanjeev Rana had complained to the police that he was in his flat when Som Dutt reached his door with about 50-60 people. Rana had opposed ringing the bell several times. Angry at this, Som Dutt started hitting his leg with a baseball bat.

Even before the Rause Avenue Court, complainant Sanjeev Rana said that the people who came with Som Dutt pulled him over the beach road and hurled kicks and punches. Then he fainted. Rana's brother informed the police and the PCR van took him to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital.
