New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday alleged that the national capital will be allocated no more than ₹350 crore in the Union Budget 2024, which is set to be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday.

Speaking after an all-party meeting, Singh claimed, “In the all-party meeting, many issues were discussed, particularly the misuse of investigation agencies against Opposition leaders, with the AAP being the biggest victim. I also raised concerns about the budget for Delhi and Punjab. Although the budget is yet to be tabled, I can predict that Delhi will not receive more than ₹350 crore.” Nirmala Sitharaman is poised to make history by presenting her seventh consecutive budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, surpassing the previous record held by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai.

Singh also criticized a recent order by the Uttar Pradesh government requiring eateries along Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names and identities of their owners. He argued, “This order mandating nameplates in shops is an attempt to harm the businesses of Dalits, backward tribals, and other marginalized groups. Such measures reflect discriminatory practices, and the exclusion of President Droupadi Murmu from the Ram temple inauguration underscores this.”

He continued, “This decision is detrimental to Dalits, backward castes, minorities, and tribals. The politics of malice is being promoted openly, with the imposition of nameplates on Kanwar Yatra routes.” Singh also called for smaller parties to be given more speaking time, stating, “Demands have been made for smaller parties to be allocated at least 5-7 minutes to speak.” The controversy surrounding the Kanwar Yatra order has drawn criticism not only from opposition members but also from within the ruling NDA. Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary commented, “It appears the order was made hastily, and the government seems adamant about its implementation. There is still time to reconsider and potentially roll back the order; otherwise, its implementation should not be overly emphasized.”
