Amritsar: Balbir Singh Seechewal and Vikramjit Singh Sahni, who have been fielded by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Rajya Sabha elections in Punjab, have been elected unopposed. Both have been handed over a certificate of election by the Returning Officer in the Rajya Sabha. Balbir Singh Seechewal is famous for running a campaign against pollution in rivers. He has also been awarded the Padma Award by the government for his work. Apart from Seechewal and Vikramjit, no other candidate had filed nominations. In such a situation, both leaders have won unopposed.

On Tuesday itself, the two had filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha candidature and then met Bhagwant Mann and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha. Both had filed their nominations in a very low-profile manner and there are no plans to celebrate even after their victory. The reason for this is that the AAP government in Punjab has been on the backfoot since Sidhu Moose Wala's murder. CM Bhagwant Mann Sidhu had reached Musewala's village this morning and met Musewala's family members and assured them of justice.

After filing his nomination, Seechewal had said that it will be my endeavour that in Punjab, the environment is proper and the water of rivers remains clean. He said that I will also work to improve the way groundwater is depleting. Vikramjit Sahni said that he will use his contacts in the country and try to create an environment for skill development in the state.
