India is home to some of the best talents in the music industry. However, at times the talented professionals do not get the credit for their work. Looking into these issues, and taking a stand for music creators, Aashish Rego has been a name to reckon with. He is the Hon. General Secretary of the Music Composers Association of India (MCAI). In the recent MCAI Annual General Body Meeting that was held on December 21, Aashish Rego was felicitated by Shri Kuldeep Singh and Ms. Sharda Iyengar for becoming the first Indian to be elected as the Vice-Chairman of the Asia Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA).

The renowned music composer has scored music for more than 130 TV shows and 25 web series. He has played a crucial role in getting justice for all those music composers who have faced copyright issues for their music compositions. Formerly, Aashish Rego was a Treasurer of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees and the Vice President of the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC). Achieving a new milestone of becoming the Vice Chairman of APMA, the music composer is looking forward to solving local and international issues of music creators in cooperation with the Internationa Council of Music Authors (CIAM).

All those who are in the music industry know that APMA takes a stand for music creators to protect and promote their rights in the Asia-Pacific region. Among the 21 member nations including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, Nepal and Taiwan; it is a proud moment for Aashish to become the Vice Chairman for APMA.

This was a well-deserved position earned by Rego for his commendable work. On this occasion, the prolific composer got to learn about Shri Kuldeep Singh’s issue of non-payment of royalties for his pathbreaking song ‘Itni Shakti Hame Dena Data. The veteran singer while highlighting the issue went on to say that the matter should be checked with the Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) and the concerned music company.

Interestingly, Aashish was a former director of IPRS who has raised his voice against certain illicit activities being practised concerning the distribution of royalties and violating the copyright norms. At the event, Mr. Rego revealed that it was a matter of shame for the country’s musical fraternity that senior composers like Kuldeep Ji have to face such issues. Ensuring to solve this matter, Aashish Rego further revealed that the veteran singer will be served with justice soon.

Apart from this, the occasion even marked the birthday celebration of renowned music composer Sulaiman Merchant. The event saw cake cutting celebration with several other music composers wishing him on his birthday.
