The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Saturday has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the deadline for the implementation of clause 6.

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently expressed the government’s inability to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord due to a ‘legal hurdle’. Days after Sarma's statement, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has asked PM  Modi to announce the deadline for its implementation. The students on Saturday told reporters that PM Modi must declare the deadline for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord during his Dhemaji visit on February 22. The AASU has also decided to stage a protest across the state on the day of the Prime Minister’s visit against the BJP government’s failure to implement Clause 6, to address issues related to big dams, and to solve the problem of flood and erosion in the state.

AASU had organised similar protests and took out torchlight rallies across the state ahead of Modi’s visit in January as well. On February 22, the AASU members will wave black flags at public places and wear black badges. AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah on Saturday said that the top BJP leaders have been exposed before the people of Assam.
