Washington: The 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to India's Abhijeet Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kramer. All three economists have been awarded the Nobel for their efforts towards reducing international poverty. Abhijeet Banerjee is a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, known in the US as MIT. Abdul Latif Jamil Poverty Action Lab was jointly established by Abhijeet Banerjee.

Let us tell you that Abhijeet Vinayak Banerjee was born on 21 February 1961 in Calcutta. He is educated at University of Calcutta, JNU and Harvard University. He received his PhD from Harvard in 1988. Abhijeet's first marriage was with MIT professor Dr Arundhati Banerjee. Both grew up together in Calcutta. However, in the year 1991, both of them got divorced. After this, Abhijeet married Esther Duflo in 2015. Esther, who won the Nobel alongside Abhijeet, is also a professor at MIT.

Earlier, the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize has been given to Ethiopian PM Abi Ahmed. PM Abi Ahmad Ali's name was chosen for the Nobel Prize for his efforts in global peace and cooperation by establishing peace with the enemy country Eritrea. After assuming the post of PM in 2018, Abi Ahmed started a large-scale liberalization in Ethiopia.
