KIEV: According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian troops currently control about 20% of Ukraine's land, but "Ukrainian defence forces have liberated 1,017 locations since the full-scale invasion began."

At the same time, the President emphasised that Russia has been at war with Ukraine for eight years. Russia held about 43,000 square kilometres of Ukrainian land between 2014 and February 24, 2022, including Crimea and a third of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

 Zelensky said, over 300,000 square kilometres of Ukraine's terrain are currently contaminated by mines and explosive munitions. "In addition, 12 million Ukrainians have become internally displaced, with over 5 million, largely women and children, fleeing the nation."
