Above 2 crore teens inoculated with first Covid-19 vaccine dose

NEW DELHI: Since the commencement of the vaccination drive for children aged 15 to 18 years on January 3, more than 2 crore teenagers have been immunised with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

According to the CoWIN webpage, a total of 2,17,42,837 teenagers have been vaccinated as of today, with the figure growing by the minute. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya  congratulated the children on the occasion: Great Going, my Young Friends. More than two crore youngsters between the 15-18 age group have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in less than a week of vaccination drive for children""Mandaviya said in a tweet.

According to the CoWIN portal, 2,37,67,488 young people aged 15 to 18 have registered for immunizations thus far. According to estimates, there are around 7.50 crore teenagers in India in this age group, to whom vaccines would be provided across the country. Over two crore people received their first dose of immunizations within the first week of the campaign's launch.

The Prime Minister said on December 25 that vaccinations for the 15-18 age range would begin on January 3. For the time being, only Bharat Biotech's locally produced Covaxin will be accessible for vaccination of this age group.

Additional doses of Covaxin have been supplied to states and union territories for inoculation of this population group, according to the health ministry.
