A truck fell into a pit from a bridge near Randhora Bridge in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district killing 26 people including 10 women and five children on Tuesday. The truck had around 60 people onboard who were traveling to Botad district for attending a wedding ceremony. The people belonged to Anida village.

District Collector Harshad Patel informed about the deaths in the unfortunate accident. “The 12 injured were rushed to a nearby hospital,” said Patel.

Victims were lifted using a crane by the rescue officials who reached the spot of the accident. A fire brigade also reached the site to assist in the rescue operations. Officials doubt more casualties as there may be people trapped under the truck which overturned in the accident.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced compensation for the kin of the deceased and said that full treatment expenses of the injured will be borne by the government. He also assured an investigation into the matter. Rupani informed about the same to the media.

“Compensation of Rs. 4 lakh for next of kin of those who died in the accident and full medical treatment will be given to the injured. Thorough investigation will be done,” said Rupani speaking to reporters.
