Top Indian table tennis players Achant Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan, and Manika Batra made their debut with a win at the WTT Star Contender. Melbourne Commonwealth Games champion Sharath returned to the second round after losing the first game against Puerto Rico's Brian Afender, winning 8–11, 11–8, 11–7, 11–1.

World number 37 Sathiyan also won 9–11, 7-11, 11–7, 11–4, 11–4 against French rival Emmanuel Lebason, 0–0. Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manika defeated Chinese Taipei's Sen Xu Cheng 11-5, 11-9, 11-9. Now he is going to compete with world number three Japanese player Mima Ito.

Sharat will face world number 16 Patrick Franziska of Germany and Sathiyan will face world number five Japanese player Tomokaju Harimoto. All three got a direct entry into the singles draw. Anthony Amalraj and Harmeet Desai lost in the first qualifying of men's singles. In women's singles, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Sahayika Mukherjee did not make it to the third round.
