New Delhi Television, or NDTV, was taken over by Gautam Adani, the third-richest man in the world, when its founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy sold a 27.26% share to an Adani entity for 602 crore in a series of block agreements.
Through its indirect company RRPR Holdings, Adani Enterprises acquired an additional 17.6 million shares of NDTV from the Roys on Friday for a price of 342.65 per share.
Adani's ownership of NDTV climbed to 64.7% as a result of the deal, which came at a price that was over 17% higher than what minority shareholders had been paid in an open offer that closed on 5 December.
Reacting to the development on Friday, NDTV shares rose 0.1% to 345.60 on the BSE.
"Adani Group is pleased to further fortify NDTV with world-class infrastructure and people and develop NDTV into a vibrant multi-platform global news organisation," said Gautam Adani, founder and chairman of Adani Group.
Aman Kumar Singh and Sunil Kumar, both former members of the Indian Administrative Service, have been added to NDTV's board of directors as a result of the change in ownership. Earlier, the NDTV board also included Sanjay Pugalia and Senthil Chengalvarayan.
