Dehradun: In a disproportionate assets case, the Uttarakhand Vigilance Department on Thursday arrested Additional Secretary Ram Vilas Yadav from Dehradun in connection with the 540 times more assets than the income case. Earlier, CM Pushkar Dhami had issued orders for Yadav's suspension on Wednesday. Ram Vilas Yadav had approached the High Court to avoid arrest, in which the court had ordered him to face questions from the vigilance department without granting any relief.  

Hemant Kumar Mishra, a social activist from Lucknow, was given an additional secretary to the Government of Uttarakhand. There was a complaint of disproportionate assets against Ram Vilas Yadav. Mishra had complained to the PM's office and the UP government for an inquiry into the matter. Taking cognizance of this, the UP government had in 2018 ordered the vigilance department to conduct an inquiry against Ram Vilas Yadav. After the investigation, the Vigilance Department had conducted a search and collected documents and facts and submitted a report to the Government.   

After the submission of the report, the Uttarakhand government had also allowed prosecution of Ram Vilas Yadav in April 2022. Subsequently, the Vigilance Department had started cracking down on the IAS officer. Following the complaint, Dr. Ram Vilas Yadav's assets were being disclosed one after the other. Yadav is said to have a big bungalow in Lucknow's Dilkusha Vihar Colony. He also has a school in the name of Janata Vidyalaya on a government land in Kursi Road. In the name of his wife Kusum Vilas, two lands worth lakhs have been found in Ghazipur district. Ram Vilas Yadav had purchased land and flats worth crores of rupees in Dehradun, Lucknow and Ghaziabad from 2013 to 2016. This was followed by Dr. A case was filed against Ram Vilas Yadav under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Social activist Hemant Mishra has alleged that he was brutalised by the police at the behest of Ram Vilas Yadav. Several FIRs have been registered in false cases.
