West Bengal: The adenovirus has taken yet another life. The victim is a 13-year-old girl from Kharagpur. She had been confined to Peerless Hospital all last week. Urjaswati Roychowdhury is the name of the young girl. She was awarded the President's Award in 2019 in recognition of her outstanding musical achievements. Quoting media reports, she succumbed to death on February 22 at 8:30 am.

Urjaswati received her award in 2019 from then Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. She also won a number of other accolades at the state and federal levels. The girl has been receiving treatement at the hospital in Kolkata for the past week after receiving a Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 2 diagnosis at the age of 2.

From an early age, Urjaswati struggled to walk and get out of bed. With the aid of a knee, ankle, and foot orthosis (KAFO), she was able to sit and stand, but she was unable to walk by herself. She was a young woman with unique requirements.

Urjaswati desired to continue her education and pursue a career as a classical singer. According to a post from Cure SMA India in February 2019, her family hoped that her wings would not be restrained by the grip of the terrible illness that was gradually robbing her of her skills.

After coronavirus and dengue, adenovirus is the third most cause for concern. Prior to this, the illness is said to have killed 11 kids in West Bengal this winter. Health professionals in Kolkata have been instructed to pay more attention to flu-like symptoms in children in order to spot and treat potential adenovirus cases before they become serious.

As per the US National Library of Medicine, adenovirus can cause "severe, life-threatening" sickness even in youngsters who had previously been healthy. Adenoviruses are frequently passed from one person to another through coughing, sneezing, touching, or shaking hands.

Adenovirus infections cannot be treated with any currently available antiviral drugs or techniques. Although there is an adenovirus vaccine, only US military members are allowed to use it.
