Kolkata: Veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has said that out of the four states and one Union Territory where assembly elections have been held, incidents of violence took place only in West Bengal and BJP and TMC are responsible for this. Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Adhir Ranjan, head of the West Bengal unit of the Congress, told reporters that however, such incidents of violence in West Bengal have been low in the three phases of polling so far this time and the credit goes to the Election Commission (EC).

He further said, "Elections were held in three states and one Union Territory other than West Bengal, but incidents of booth capture, bloodshed, and violence were heard only in our state.'' The Congress leader in the Lok Sabha said that only central forces personnel cannot prevent every untoward incident during elections and it is also the responsibility of the state police department. He also claimed that the Left-Congress-ISF alliance was strengthening its position as the third force in West Bengal.

He further said that a large number of people gathered against the "fascist and undemocratic" forces at the alliance rally on February 28 at the brigade parade ground in Kolkata. Chowdhury said it is interesting that both TMC and BJP are saying that their target in the elections is to win 200 seats.
