Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that Adi Shankaracharya's principles are still relevant today. He emphasised that Indian philosophy is concerned with human welfare and views life holistically, and Adi Shankaracharya worked to make society aware of this fact. "Once upon a time, spirituality and religion were thought to be solely associated with stereotypes. However, Indian philosophy emphasises human welfare and views life as a whole. Adi Shankaracharya worked to educate the public about this truth "PM Modi made the remarks at Kedarnath.

The Prime Minister was speaking after unveiling a statue of Adi Shankaracharya at the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district. After the devastating floods of 2013, the Prime Minister praised Baba Kedar for completing reconstruction work in Kedarpuri in sub-zero temperatures.

After unveiling the statue, PM Modi said that there are no words to describe the experience of sitting before Adi Guru Shankaracharya's statue at his rebuilt samadhi. Prime Minister Modi further said that –‘You are all here today to witness the inauguration of Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi. In spirit, his devotees are present. All of the country's maths and 'jyotirlingas' are now linked to us.’

The PM also mentioned the devastation caused by the 2013 floods, saying, "After the floods, people wondered if Kedarnath could be redeveloped. But a voice inside me always assured me that it would be redeveloped and would be even more magnificent than before." After being destroyed in the Uttarakhand floods of 2013, Adi Shankaracharya's Samadhi was rebuilt.
