Tokyo: India may have another medal in its account in the Tokyo Olympics. Star golfer Aditi Ashok has raised hopes of a medal with her stellar performance. Aditi is ranked second after the third round of women's individual stroke play. Aditi has a great chance to win a gold medal. If the fourth and final round is not held on Saturday (August 7) due to bad weather, Aditi may get a silver medal. On the other hand, if the final round is completed, Aditi can clinch the gold medal. If Aditi wins the medal, it will be a historic moment for Indian golf. India has not won a medal in golf at the Olympics so far. Until five years ago, Aditi Ashok was seen spending her time among golf veterans. She was the youngest contestant in the women's golf competition at the Rio Olympics 2016. But now times have changed and she is poised to win a medal in Tokyo Olympics. Aditi said, 'Playing at the Rio Olympics gave me experience. Living in the sports village and watching athletes was the best experience. In this Olympics, I think I'll finish well. I'll try to win a medal.'
This is just the fourth time golf is being played at the Olympics. The women's golf matches began at the Kasumigaseki Country Club on Wednesday. On the first day, Sweden's Madeline Sagstrom played a card of 66 and topped the line. Aditi Ashok played a 4-under 67 card on the first day. She was joined second after day one by Nelly Korda (67) of the United States. 23-year-old Aditi Ashok performed more brilliantly in the second round on Thursday. She played a card of 66 with 5 birdies but fell behind world number one golfer Nelly Korda.
