Indian golfer Aditi Ashok suffered a defeat despite leading France's Perrin Delacor for most of the time in the opening round of the Bank of Hope LPGA match play here. Aditi had taken the lead in the match most of the time but has lagged behind in the last two holes. Aditi and Delocor had done the same 5 birdies before the final hole, but the French player has beaten another Birdie Nirantar Indian player in the 18th and final hole. As many as 64 players are participating in the tournament, which is scheduled to be played on a three-day round-robin basis. The winner of each of the 16 groups is going to make it to the knockouts.

Earlier, there were reports that the Indian golfer made a strong comeback in the last stage and finished the round with a score of four-under, hitting five birdies. Aditi was tied on top of the scoreboard with Australia's Hannah Green and China's Shiyu Lin, though she was eliminated in the final due to cross-score, while Hannah Green also won the LA Championship.

In a conversation with LPGA, Aditi said, "According to me, this week has been good overall. I have never played in the LPGA in a position where I have taken the lead on the first day and maintained it throughout the tournament. The competition here is very tough. Ten players did well in the tournament but only one can win. I am happy with my game.''
