Aditya Puri, former chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director of HDFC Bank, has joined private equity (PE) giant Global Carlyle as a senior advisor. The global private equity company said on Monday that Puri would advise Carlyle about investment opportunities in Asia.
Puri has recently retired from the post of CEO and Managing Director of HDFC Bank. He is credited with raising HDFC Bank from the bottom to become the largest private sector bank in the country. Carlyle said in the statement that Puri would advise his team about investment opportunities in Asia. He will also provide guidance about changing market conditions. In addition, Puri will also advise Carlyle's investment professionals and portfolio management team.
Puri has been associated with HDFC Bank since its inception and has contributed significantly in making it the country's largest private sector bank in 25 years. He carried the banking business on his shoulders, giving jobs to 1.20 lakh persons. He has been replaced by Shashidhar Jagadishan at HDFC Bank. Puri was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Euromoney Awards of Excellence, 2020. He is the first Indian corporate leader to receive this award.
