Adobe Inc. on Monday, April 17, announced the plan to add new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to its popular video editing programme used by the film and television sectors.

With the tools, video editors will be able to perform things like switch a shot's lighting from daytime to dusk or create background music by simply inputting a few words to instruct the machine. The tools are based on a brand-new system for producing still images and text called Adobe Firefly that the business unveiled last month.

Applications from Microsoft Corp.-backed OpenAI and Stability AI, which enable people to produce creative photos with just a few words of description, have sparked a wave of interest in generative AI, which Adobe is riding. Legal issues, however, cast doubt on whether the output of such AI systems can be utilised in commercial activity after Stability Artificial Intelligence was sued by Getty photos, which claimed the startup had improperly exploited Getty's copyrighted photos in training its AI system.

One of the major providers of software for visual and video artists, Adobe, assures its clients that the output from its Firefly system will be safe for use in a commercial setting.

The Artificial Intelligence system may be instructed to read a script using the new Adobe video tools, which will then build a storyboard for the final product and even suggest certain shots for a rough cut of the story. The system will have elements for the advertising sector that can take film and produce various ambient sounds and backdrops for airing advertisements in several nations.

Ivo Manolov, vice president of Adobe's digital and video audio enterprise services, told Reuters in an interview that the company is able to produce 1,000 localised versions of the same film with the push of a single button.

Adobe is now testing the setup and intends to make the video tools available later this year.
