New Delhi: Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi has raised a strong objection to the plea of senior advocate Indira Jaisingh to waive her death sentence in the Nirbhaya case. In fact, Indira Jaising had said that Nirbhaya's mother should follow Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of Congress, who pardoned Nalini, convicted of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.

On Indira Jaising's statement, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi has said, "can't believe" how Jaising dared suggest this, and said it is "because of people like her [that] justice is not done with rape victims".

Nirbhaya's mother said, who is Indira Jaisingh to instruct me. The whole country wants the culprits to be hanged. Due to people like them, justice is not available to the rape victims. Jaising said in a tweet, "I can fully feel the pain of Asha Devi, I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who has forgiven Nalini and said she does not want the death penalty for her." We are with you (Nirbhaya's mother), but are against the death penalty.
