KABUL: Several employees at the Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, have quit due to unpaid salaries and remunerations.

According to Khaama Press, at least 35 airport personnel have resigned since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan last August. The employees claimed they were in terrible financial straits and that the Taliban government had failed to compensate them for the eight months of labour they had provided at the airport.

The Taliban's Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation, on the other hand, listed the number of resignations at 15, alleging that the staff who left were housekeepers, helpers, and janitors, but did not say whether they were paid.
According to sources, if employees' salaries are not paid on time, the number of resignations due to financial issues will likely increase.

The news comes after the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) warned last week that Afghanistan was witnessing the "biggest humanitarian disaster on Earth," with over 20 million people fearing hunger.
