Pune: Afghan students studying in Pune are extremely upset amid the Taliban capturing several areas in Afghanistan. Most students studying in India are not able to contact their families or family members living in Afghan. At the same time, these students are not willing to go back to their country and want to extend their visas.
Afghan students are worried about their stay in India and want their student visas to be extended so that these students can stay in India till the situation in their country stabilizes. Wali Rahman Rahmani, head of the Afghan Students Association, Pune, said on Monday that nearly 3,000 students from Afghanistan are studying in different educational institutions in the city. He said that there are some students who can get in touch with their families back home, but there are many others who are still unable to contact their parents and families.
He said the association is attempting to help these pupils contact their families back home. Rahmani says there are some students whose visas will expire soon. 'We are requesting the Government of India to extend their visas until the situation improves,' he added.
