For the third time in a row, the committee of Indian Athletics Federation has recommended the name of star spearfighter Neeraj Chopra for the Khel Ratna Award. The 22-year-old Chopra is the only player in track and field, whose name has been recommended by AFI.
Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medalist Chopra was given the Arjuna Award in 2018. His name was also sent for Khelratna that year. Last year too, his name was recommended for Khelratna. A source said, 'Neeraj is the only athlete whose name has been recommended for Khel Ratna this year.'
For your information, let us tell that the Odisha government has already recommended the name of Farrata runner Duti Chand for the Arjuna Award. Chopra has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. He was out for the last full season due to an elbow injury.
