The men's hockey teams have created history by performing inspiringly at the Tokyo Olympic Games, which is going to be remembered for ages. The men's team has ended 4 decades of medal drought by winning a historic bronze medal. The Indian Men's Team recalled its glorious past by ending the 41-year long wait of medals in the sport and starting new dawn.
Recalling India's journey to the Olympics, they won their first match against New Zealand 3-2. However, in the second match, they suffered a humiliating 1-7 defeat at the hands of Australia. But after which the Indian team came back with a bang and then defeated Spain 3-0, Argentina 3-1 and Japan 5-3. With this, the Indian team was second in Group A after winning four of the five matches.
The team led by Manpreet Singh defeated Great Britain 3-1 in a one-sided match in the quarterfinals. With this win, the Indian team managed to reach the semifinals of the Olympics after 49 years. In the semi-finals, the men's hockey team defeated Belgium 5-2. India created history by defeating Great Britain 5-4 in the bronze medal match.
The team has also won a bronze medal after ending a 41-year drought. India's hockey team won the last medal at the Olympics in Moscow in 1980, when the team won gold under Vasudevan Bhaskaran. India had won the highest number of medals in men's hockey at the Olympics. The team has also won gold medals in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980 Olympics. In addition, they have won silver in 1960 and bronze medals in 1968, 1972 and Tokyo Olympics. This feat in Indian hockey has made everyone emotional.
