New Delhi: On Thursday, State-run oil companies hiked the price of petrol by 14-15 paise and that of diesel by 16-18 paise a litre across four metro cities in the country. In Delhi, petrol prices were raised by 15 paise to Rs 71.15 a litre on Thursday as against Rs 71 on Wednesday. Whereas Diesel in the national capital went up by 16 paise to Rs 66.33 as compared to Rs 66.17 yesterday.
Worth mentioning here is that state-run oil marketing companies kept prices of petrol and diesel stagnant on Wednesday. Citizens in Kolkata have to pay Rs 73.25 for a litre of petrol after a 14 paise hike over Wednesday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 68.12 in Kolkata, 17 paise higher than yesterday's rate of Rs 67.95. Retail petrol price in Mumbai was raised by 15 paise to Rs 76.79, from Rs 76.64 recorded on Wednesday. Diesel prices were raised by 17 paise from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 69.30 a litre. In Chennai, petrol is retailing at Rs 73.87, 15 paise higher than Wednesday’s rate of Rs 73.72 while diesel price peaked to Rs 70.09, 18 paise more than yesterday's rate of Rs 69.91 a litre, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website.

In Noida, petrol price went up by 11 paise to Rs 70.89 as against Rs 70.78 on Wednesday and diesel price hiked to Rs 65.46. Petrol in Gurugram became dearer by 10 paise to Rs 71.75 while diesel price raised to Rs 65.89 as against Rs 65.77 on Wednesday.
Earlier in October 2018, retail petrol price had climbed to Rs 84 a litre in Delhi and it crossed the Rs 91 mark in Mumbai. On Thursday, in the international oil market, crude prices lingered close to 2019 highs, backed by OPEC supply cuts and US curbs on Iran and Venezuela. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 67.14 per barrel, up 6 cents from their last close.
