Lucknow: Members of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) protested against the singing of Vande Mataram during the swearing-in ceremony of Corporation and Nagar Panchayat in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut. After this, he had a fierce scuffle with the BJP members. The swearing-in ceremony began with Vande Mataram on Friday (May 26) at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Auditorium, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. During this, the members of AIMIM remained seated on their seats. When the BJP members asked them to at least stand up, they flared up and started fighting.

Seeing the situation, policemen came forward and took out the members of AIMIM and BJP. After this the members of AIMIM boycotted the ceremony and left. Meerut Commissioner J Selva Kumari had come to administer the oath to the mayor and councilors during the swearing-in. She was sitting on the stage. Whereas, DM and SP were handling the arrangements with the traffic police force. AIMIM members said that they will sing the national anthem, Bharat Hindustan Zindabad bol denge, but will not sing Vande Mataram. AIMIM members argued that this program is not of BJP. This is the program of the mayor and the councillors. He alleged that the BJP committed hooliganism during the swearing-in ceremony and that too in the presence of the District Magistrate and police officers.
On the other hand, BJP members say that these people are Jinnah's followers, Owaisi's people, who want to divide the country. He said that whoever does not sing Vande Mataram will be given a befitting reply. Owaisi has been opposing the slogans of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai since the beginning, he says, 'Even if a knife is put on my neck, I will not say Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. In fact, they give the reason behind this that, in Islam, Jai cannot be spoken for anyone other than Allah, so they will not say Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram, because Vande Mataram is also praise of Bharat Mata. However, after seeing the developments in Meerut, a question arises that the people of Owaisi's party, on the basis of their religion, are refusing to sing Vande Mataram, however, there is so much freedom in India that what should they sing and what not? This decision is his personal. But what, Owaisi's party people can't even stand in respect of the country's national anthem, that too when they are people's representatives? It is also worth noting that this same Owaisi had raised slogans of Jai Bhim-Jai Mim while taking the oath of the post of MP, so was it not Jai of anyone other than Allah? So Bhimrao Ambedkar, the son of Bharat Mata and the architect of the Constitution, can be praised, then why not Bharat Mata? It is also worth noting that Amar Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Veer Abdul Hameed, Missileman Dr. Abul Kalam Azad had no problem with singing Vande Mataram despite being a Muslim, so where did the members of AIMIM come from today? So was it not the glory of anyone other than Allah?
