After cloudburst and flash flood in Himachal Pradesh, IMD warns for red alert

The India Meteorological Department issues a 'red' warning for Himachal Pradesh. A while ago, Himachal reported a major incident of cloud burst in Lahaul-Spiti. The flash flood triggered by the cloud burst resulted in the death of a person, while nine others are still missing. The state disaster management director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta informs about the incident to media and requests people to stay safe. 

Mokhta further said another man is reported missing from the Chamba district. While, a JCB helper, was washed away in the flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Chaned tehsil on the Chamba-Pathankot road. IMD on Monday issued a heavy rain warning in Himachal Pradesh. Director, IMD, Himachal Pradesh, Surender Paul had said that Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Chamba will receive rain and the low-lying areas were put on alert. In the Lahaul-Spiti region, the cloudburst took place at Udaipur in Lahaul at around 8 pm on Tuesday. A 19-year-old laborer, identified as Mohammad Altaaf, was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. In the meantime, a search operation for those missing was launched on Tuesday night, but was hampered by a heavy flow of water.

It was further resumed on Wednesday morning and several roads have been blocked and around 60 vehicles stuck due to landslides and flash floods. Several people were evacuated from Lahaul-Spiti's Darcha village on Tuesday after the water level rose in the Bhaga river. In addition to such damages to life and property, people living near low-lying areas have been safely evacuated by the police.
