Mumbai: Measles has started showing havoc in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. According to Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC) data, 233 cases of measles have been reported in Mumbai so far in the year 2022. At the same time, 12 people have died due to this so far. An 8-month-old baby recently lost his life due to measles. He was admitted to Pune on November 18.
According to BMC, 8 deaths due to measles are confirmed. At the same time, 1 case is currently suspected. Of the 12 persons who died, three died outside Mumbai. Recently, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had taken a big step in view of the increasing cases of measles. The Centre has decided to deploy three high-level multidisciplinary 3-member teams in Ranchi (Jharkhand), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), and Malappuram (Kerala). These teams will assist the state health authorities in setting up public health measures. Actually, this disease is spreading rapidly in children.
According to the news, the central team going to Ranchi includes experts from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RMLH), New Delhi. Experts from PHO, Mumbai, Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital (KSCH), New Delhi, and Regional Health and Family Welfare Office (RoHFW), Ahmedabad will join the central team going to Ahmedabad and the Malappuram team will include experts from RoHFW, Thiruvananthapuram, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry and Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi.
