In a bold move, Pakistan has launched a new operation along the Afghan border against the “Daesh”- an acronym for the Arabic phrase al-Dawla al-Islamiya al-Iraq al-Sham (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).

The operation termed as "Raddul-ul-Fasad" was launched in Khyber region of Pakistan which is one of the volatile Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Previously, the army had blatantly denied any presence of IS on its own territory. Contrary to the claims, the group was responsible for several attacks on Pakistan over the past month.

This operation was necessary because Daesh is getting established there and we have to stop the influence spreading into Pakistani territory through the Rajgal Valley," military spokesperson Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor said. Adding blame to the neighbour, the Gen. said that the operation would first secure the border near Rajgal Valley and forces would then clear the rest of the area as multiple "terrorist" organisations with links to recent attacks in Pakistan had safe havens on the other side of the border.

On June 4, Pakistan security forces had claimed killing over a dozen suspected Daesh fighters during a security operation in southwestern Balochistan province that was aimed at recovering a Chinese couple kidnapped by the terror group in May last.

The couple was later reportedly killed, according to a video posted on a pro-Daesh website.
